Council workers, the Save Coseley Baths campaign and Save Pensnett High School group turned out in force to make their feelings known.

LETS NOT BOTHER ABOUT THE LOCAL ISSUES, LETS NOT CARE ABOUT PEOPLE WITH ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR IN THERE AREA, WE ARE IN POWER SO LETS ALL HAVE A 25% RISE FOR NOTHING.
Councillors vote for 25pc pay rise Express Star
Connor just for the record, last night vote Adidas Originals Sl Loop Racer Chromatech transcended party politics.
At least a third of the councillors present voted against this move, with two Conservatives (myself included) openly speaking against it because we simply did not consider it acceptable at a time when other people are taking pay cuts or losing their jobs altogether. If anything, I believe councillors in Labour controlled Sandwell (who receive a third more in allowances Adidas Sneaker Tech Super Runwht/Stdeel/Bliss G96502
FOR YEARS 17 YEARS I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH A PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY BEHIND MY PROPERTY IE: DRUG TAKING, YOUTHS DRINKING, PROPERTY BEING SET ON FIRE, BEER BOTTLES THROWN INTO MY GARDEN AND EVEN A RAPE. I HAVE APPROCHED MY LOCAL COUNCILLOR ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS WITH A VIEW TO GET THIS RIGHT OF WAY CLOSED, ONLY TO BE MEET WITH THE SAME REASON WHY IT CANNOT BE CLOSED IS COST TO THE DUDLEY COUNCIL. IF THIS IS THE CASE WHY HAVE THEY AWARDED THEMSELVES A RISE.
Bob i even make another comment on here that will upset people. The public sector workers deserve a rise no matter what happens in the private sector. I have every respect for the private sector but when ever theres a recession who rersponsible? Who caused this one greedy fat bankers
Of course, whilst being an elected member is rightly regarded as public service there are even so significant costs attached to that service most obviously the tangible costs of travel, phone calls, loss of earnings, and so on.
I believe the problems councils have attracting candidates to elected office probably have more to do with the unwillingness of many people to sacrifice their position on the career ladder or to jeopardise their marriages than it does because our remuneration per se is not sufficient.
per citizen represented than Dudley councillors do) are actually overpaid and would publicly challenge them to tell us what it is they do for their electors over and above ourselves that justifies this gaping difference.
The councillors aren perfect but they do what they do the best they can try it. English Exile says it all you wont do anything about it because most people aint got the guts to take the jobs they do on!!! All talk and moan and groan about the state of our councils. Let see some of you talkers do something and become a councillor and make the changes you all crave about. As a result, Dudley councillors have received no increase in allowances over the last three years (which, when inflation is accounted for, therefore means we have taken a cut something that Express Star reports always conveniently omit to mention).
DUDLEY COUNCIL ARE AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACECllr Burstan, I admire your try to justify the Adidas Y3 Pure Boost
I simply did not think that, in all conscience, I can commend these amazing people for their acts of service to the Borough all freely given whilst at the same time voting myself over nine grand a year just to get out of bed and undertake mine!
HA HA ARE THE DUDLEY COUNCILLORS IN THE REAL WORLD I THINK NOT.
Finally, let us not forget that much of what my fellow councillors pocket in allowances whether they voted for this rise or not they never actually spend on themselves. Indeed, my Mayor Charity Fund was considerably the richer precisely because of the incredible, unfailing generosity of many of them towards all manner of good causes, both locally and nationally.
I have conducted a mini poll of 30 friends and collegues and all of them, 100%, agree that this rise cannot be justified. So I find it arrogant that you comment on "walking the walk", are you better than anyone else?
BOB Have you some how got me mixed up with someone else? I am not against the public sector. If you bothered to read alot of my posts you would realise i support the public sector mate. I am always on their side when the express and star prints derogatory remarks about them. The comment is on their side.!!!!!
In addition, there are also intangible costs too that both the media and a critical public tend to overlook. I too have sometimes wondered where I could have been now had I devoted as much time to my career as I have to fighting for those things in which I believe.
As Mayor of Dudley last year, I enjoyed the immense privilege of meeting, commending and thanking thousands of incredible people who work in Dudley's voluntary sector, whether as youth leaders or community organisers or even as chair stackers and tea makers.
25% increase through a raft of reasons and excuses.
I was in favour of restoring that link for the obvious reason that, as you say, I don want to be in the invidious position of deciding my own pay rise. Linking it to what Dudley home helps and park wardens receive is a way of doing this that removes the politics from any increases. With no direspect to time and hard work that the panel put into its deliberations, I felt I could not support an increase of that magnitude for the reasons I mentioned in my earlier comment.
As to what I will do with my own increase, I shall content myself with quoting Matthew Gospel Chapter 6 verses 1 3.
Let me make clear that I do not cast aspersions upon those of my fellow councillors who did vote for this rise. Whereas I work for a sympathetic employer with a flexi time scheme, many of them face losing pay when they attend council business. In fact, I wonder how many of the contributors on this site would be prepared to sacrifice their careers and their relationships in order to fight for the things in which they believe. When you can walk the walk (ie: get up out of your armchairs, have your name added to the ballot paper and go out and campaign for election to public office), then you will have earned the right to talk the talk.
